NEWPORT, Ark. (KAIT) – Several businesses are creating jobs in Jackson County.

A press release from the Newport Economic Development Commission announced that cryptocurrency companies GMI Computing, United BitEngine and Juice Tech plans will be located in Newport.

The three companies will engage in what is commonly referred to as “bitcoin mining,” but will work with cryptocurrencies beyond bitcoin.

The availability of excess capacity at local electrical substations is a key reason NEDC says companies chose Newport.

The three companies will bring a total of about 45 jobs to the region, with salaries ranging from $50,000 to $70,000.

“Job advertisements will be on the NEDC website, www.newportaredc.organd through online employment service programs,” the NEDC said.
